Richard T. Schoephoerster – Secretary Treasurer Environmental or Health
Richard T. Schoephoerster has been dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso since 2007. He leads six departments, 17 degree programs and more than 2,500 students.
Dr. Schoephoerster earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering at the University of Iowa. He came to UTEP after 17 years at Florida International University where he established and served as the initial director of the Cardiovascular Engineering Center and was the founding chair of the Biomedical Engineering Department. In 2005, he has named the Wallace H. Coulter Eminent Scholars Chair in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Schoephoerster maintains an active research program in the area of biofluid mechanics and cardiovascular devices; he has received more than $2 million in research project funding. In 2008, he was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.
Over the past 13 years, he has served on a variety of local and national committees and boards for the American Heart Association, including chair of the National Bioengineering and Biotechnology Research Review Committee.
Dr. Schoephoerster’s term on the Public Service Board expires December 31, 2013.
