Mayor John F. Cook |

John Cook is a native of Brooklyn, New York, but he has lived most of his life in Northeast El Paso.
After graduating from high school, Mayor Cook served in the U.S. Army for several years where his assignments included work as a special agent in Military Intelligence. He also has an extensive background in telecommunications, having worked for Western Electric Co., Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. and Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. before retiring in 1991.
Mayor Cook and his family own and operate several Northeast El Paso businesses. He is vice president of marketing and quality assurance coordinator of Cooks Catering and president of Cook and Associates, a marketing, management and fund-raising consultant firm. He is also the volunteer executive director of El Paso Charities Community Chest.
n 1999, Mayor Cook was elected to City Council. Since that time he has also served as president of the El Paso Housing Finance Corp. and president of El Paso Health Care Facilities Financing Corp. He was elected mayor of El Paso in June 2005.
An active member of the community, Mayor Cook is a founder and director on the board of many civic and veterans’ organizations, including El Paso Country Day School, LULAC Project Amistad, El Paso School of Excellence and Pro Action, where he serves as secretary/treasurer to the Board of Directors.
Mayor Cook is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso where he earned a BA degree in management.
