(El Paso, Texas) — Yesterday, El Paso Water Utilities’ crews retrieved the fire hydrant from a sinkhole at the corner of S. Oregon and Sixth. The sinkhole was created when the hydrant was damaged on late Thursday, Oct. 11. Water from the hydrant also caused damage to the apartment building located at 800 S. Oregon.
El Paso Water Utilities was not permitted access to the sinkhole until the building was stabilized; however, the hydrant was recovered immediately after receiving notice to proceed. An examination revealed clear evidence of a collision with a vehicle or possibly heavy construction equipment.
EPWU will file a report with the Police Department. The evidence that was recovered will be used to locate the person who left the scene after damaging the fire hydrant.
