WHERE: El Paso Water Utilities
1154 Hawkins Blvd.
Board Room – 4th Floor

At tomorrow’s meeting, the Public Service Board will consider a partnership with the City of El Paso to provide land for new baseball and softball fields adjacent to Brown Street and Schuster Avenue.  If approved, a joint resolution will allow fields to be constructed on six acres of land that currently house an El Paso Water Utilities reservoir and the Lower Tom Lea Park. The City will pay for the development, maintenance and operation of the ball fields.

The Board will also:

  • Recognize 13 industrial customers who achieved 100 percent compliance with pretreatment regulations in 2008. The pretreatment program protects the environment by regulating the discharge of toxic or hazardous waste into the wastewater system.
  • Receive updates on a Texas Water Development Board grant that will fund the development a stormwater master plan for areas outside the city.

The Board will also hear the status of the reclaimed water “purple pipe” system. Reclaimed water saves millions of gallons of drinking water each day by delivering highly treated wastewater to customers for industrial and irrigation use. It also replenishes the Hueco Bolson, a major source of the municipal water supply.
