EL PASO –Heavy thunderstorms hit the region last night and EPWU Stormwater Operations crews have been working diligently to resolve any problems that might have occurred as a result of the rain. Dispatchers received calls reporting sewer problems, valve leaks, street flooding and requests for sandbags.
System Working Well
Overall, the new stormwater system is working well and all major pump stations functioned properly. Stormwater crews are working hard to complete ongoing projects and, despite minor glitches, there were no major problems to report. Several stormwater units were sent throughout the city to address complaints. EPWU work crews will continue to address calls as they come in.
Flooding
Stormwater crews also checked for blockages and flooding, and vactor trucks have been working since last night to extract water that caused flooding in certain parts of the city. The trucks will remain on the roadways through the remainder of the day.
Crews extracted runoff water from the following locations:
- Hughes Circle
- Davenport Road
- Ocotillo Road
- San Marcial Street
- Delta Drive
- Green Cove Drive
- Mamie Road
- Airway Boulevard
- Boeing Drive
