The Public Service Board has called a special meeting to consider asking City Council to issue $12.037 million of Stormwater Revenue Bonds to be purchased by the Texas Water Development Board to fund stormwater projects.

The bonds will be purchased through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), also known as stimulus funding. The funding will be in the form of a 20-year, no-interest (0 percent) loan, which will yield $6.7 million in interest savings.

Five El Paso Water Utilities stormwater projects are eligible for funding through ARRA, and a sixth project is eligible for partial funding.  EPWU is the only Texas utility to have projects approved in the stormwater category.
