The final Public Service Board budget review meeting will take place Thursday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. The El Paso Water Utilities staff will present the fiscal year 2009-2010 stormwater operating and capital budget and recommendations from the Stormwater Master Plan Community Advisory Committee. The public is encouraged to attend.
No increases in stormwater fees are recommended for FY 2009-2010. However, staff will recommend that fees for churches and non-profit agencies, currently 25 percent of the non-residential fee, be reduced to 10 percent. The fee for these organizations is scheduled to increase to 50 percent of the non-residential fee next month.
Recommendations from the advisory committee include stormwater capital projects to be implemented during the next three years. Members also identified land to be acquired for projects that carry or retain stormwater runoff while preserving land in its natural state, as well as areas that can be developed into dual-purpose park/ponds and used for both recreation and flood control. These projects will be funded from stormwater fee revenues that are set aside for green projects.
The Public Service Board is scheduled to adopt the water, wastewater, reclaimed water and stormwater budgets at its regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 11. The fiscal year begins March 1.
