CONFERENCE FUNDS WILL BENEFIT LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION News Release Contact: Christina Montoya, Vice President-Marketing and Communication 915-594-5596 (office), e-mail: cmontoya@epwu.org Date: October 12, 2009 WHO: Council of Engineering Companies - El Paso Chapter and El Paso Water Utilities WHAT: Fundraising Proceeds Check Presentation to Dame la Mano WHEN: October 14, 2009, 8:30 a.m. WHERE: 1154 Hawkins The Council of Engineering Companies - El Paso Chapter (CEC) sponsored a Desalination Conference in 2006 along with El Paso Water Utilities (EPWU).  A majority of net proceeds went to an organization that helps the needy pay for their water bills, but a small amount remains. Dame la Mano, a non-profit organization that helps families in crisis, approached Mayor John Cook for assistance to install a fire line at their facility so it can meet city code. This is crucial for the non-profit not only to qualify for grant assistance, but to remain open as well.  The CEC and EPWU have agreed to donate $2,789 in residual conference proceeds to Dame la Mano.  “We are so thankful for the generosity of both of these organizations,” said Dame la Mano Executive Director Rosa Cabrera.  “Without their help, dozens of battered or homeless women and their children would not have a home and be living on the streets.” The check will be presented to Dame la Mano at the beginning of the PSB meeting on October 14.
