EL PASO - Conserving natural resources is theme of the day when El Paso Water Utilities celebrates Earth Day with Recycle2Go@TecH2O. The celebration takes place Saturday, April 17, at the TecH2O Water Resources Learning Center, 10751 Montana Avenue. All activities are free and open to the public.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitors can explore exhibits on topics such as xeriscaping, conservation and Chihuahuan Desert plants and wildlife. The center also offers interactive activities, such as the cloud machine that teaches participants how clouds are made and allows them to hold simulated clouds in their hands.

Exhibitors will suggest clever ways to reuse natural resources and protect the environment. Information will be offered on topics such as energy-efficient lighting, indoor air quality, toxic-free living and waste reduction. A local artist will display purses, tote bags and wallets made from recycled billboards while the TecH2O staff shows how paper and magazines can be used to make jewelry, book marks and key chains.

At 11 a.m., talented students in the eighth grade and higher will be featured in the annual Trash Fashion Design Show and Contest. Wearable creations fashioned from recycled items will be judged on originality, innovation and overall design. Prizes will be awarded in several categories.
