EL PASO – A successful public education program produced by El Paso Water Utilities’ (EPWU) communications and marketing department will be recognized Thursday, April 7 in Fort Worth at the Texas Water 2011 Conference. Christina Montoya, the Utility’s Vice President of Communication and Marketing, created the campaign to teach El Pasoans about the consequences of dumping trash and debris in the city’s stormwater drainage system.

The multifaceted “Get Mad! Report Illegal Dumping” campaign will receive the Watermark Award for Communications Excellence. An educational video “Willie the Water Drop’s Rescue,” featuring the EPWU mascot and Eastwood High School Video Technology students, was produced by Montoya and will receive an Honorable Mention.

The Watermark Award for Communications Excellence is awarded by the Water Environment Association of Texas and the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association. The award recognizes water-industry professionals who produce top-quality communications and increases awareness of the importance of effective communication among water-resources professionals.
