EL PASO – With rain forecast for tonight and through the weekend, El Paso Water Utilities is taking precautionary measures to protect residents in the 6300 block of Tejas Drive. A rock wall on Surety Drive collapsed during a Tuesday-night rain storm, sending mud and rocks onto the property below.

EPWU is placing sandbags behind the Surety Drive property. In case of rain, the runoff will be directed away from the property and into a nearby storm drain. The Utility will remove the mud and debris from the properties and from the alley that separates Surety and Tejas Drives. EPWU will repair the wall and restore the property to its original condition.

The rock wall is on private property; however, the wall created public safety issues when it collapsed. Sandbags will provide immediate, short-term protection for the Tejas Drive residents.

EPWU management will meet next week with the Surety Drive property owner. In the meanwhile, the Utility's engineering staff will begin designing a permanent solution to the problem.
