El Paso — El Paso Water Utilities will hold a series of community meetings to discuss the stormwater fee that began appearing on customer bills in March.
Prior to March 1, stormwater management functions were shared by several city departments and funded from the city’s general fund. However, last July, City Council moved the responsibility for stormwater management to El Paso Water Utilities and authorized the utility to establish a fee to fund stormwater services and facilities.
The stormwater fee pays for the operations and maintenance of the existing stormwater system, as well as the planning, design and construction of system improvements. Ten percent of the revenues will pay for projects that combine stormwater management with the preservation of open spaces, wilderness areas and arroyos.
At the upcoming meetings, El Paso Water Utilities’ staff will present information on the stormwater budget and fee structure. Information is also available in the stormwater section of this web site.
Customers with site-specific questions should call the utility’s Customer Service Department at 594-5500. Customer service representatives are available to answer questions about billing and the calculation of fees.
