Inquiry Into Water

When you think of science, what comes to mind? If you said investigations, ideas, observations, data collection, and communicating what has been observed or discovered, then you are on track to understanding science inquiry. Science inquiry is the core of science learning. It helps engage students in learning science topics, ideas, or questions.

Inquiry into Water will help students learn about the many aspects of water. The student will ask questions, construct explanations and introduce possible solutions to local water issues. It is hoped that students will be motivated to be proactive stewards that encourage the community to do its part to take care of this precious resource. The curriculum also encourages collaboration among students, teachers and the community.

With the background knowledge and experience students have and the introduction of engaging questions or concerns, critical and logical thinking occurs and results in a higher order of learning. Since learning is developmental and distinctive in every student, different learning styles may be integrated.

In learning about or researching water related topics, first, identify a question that can be answered through scientific investigation. Then, practice information-seeking skills to answer the question. Based on the information collected, the student should be able to make reasonable predictions.

Teachers!!! Although there are outlined activities included in this educational tool, feel free to use the data creatively. There is plenty of information in cyberspace. Just make sure your resources are reliable.
