Intro if you Dare
Having a sustainable, high-quality water supply is a major concern
in the Chihuahuan desert. As the human population multiplies and
resources are divided, water issues remain one of the region's biggest
environmental challenges. Through a computer animated educational
tool titled "Willie's Water World,"problem solving, critical
thinking, and creative assessments help make learning about water
more interesting and enjoyable.
While education must cater to many learning styles, some prefer
to learn through hands-on and real life experiences. Science inquiry
uses what is already known to develop additional knowledge by investigating
and making logical predictions. Understanding this enriched approach
to learning, El Paso Water Utilities selected this curriculum to
assist teachers in teaching about the local water issues that affect
everyone in the region.
"Willie" the Water Drop is an icon for El Paso Water Utilities;
he symbolizes water conservation throughout the El Paso area. This
inquisitive, animated character takes the viewer through leaps,
bounds and splashes to explore and discover where our water resources
originate. Join Willie as he maneuvers through surface and underground
resources and helps us engage in creative learning ideas for water
smart solutions.
We all depend on water, but our degree of knowledge determines how
conscientious we are about it. Students will encounter challenges
as they discover how limited and vulnerable our fresh water supply
is. With access to vast amounts of information from geological studies,
satellite images and other technology, students will discover how
real-life situations can be the difference in having or not having
a high-quality and plentiful water supply.
