Water Smart Solutions

Water is our most valuable resource. Without water, the earth would probably look like the moon. Because of the earth’s atmosphere and the hydrological cycle, there is always water, though fresh water is not always at our fingertips. If water is in the form of ice or gas it is not available for drinking. If the liquid state of water has salt or is contaminated, it is not ready for drinking. You can not take a straw and drink from a cloud. This is why it is important not to waste the fresh clean available water in order to have it for the future. All living things need water to live: without it, people could not live more than a few days. There is less than one percent of fresh water for the whole world, and since El Paso is in the desert that means only a fraction of that source is available here. If we practice water conservation now, we will have fresh water longer into the future.
