Make Plans to Attend Water Festival 2009
If you’re looking for family fun on Oct. 31, come to Water Festival 2009 at the TecH2O Water Resources Learning Center, 10751 Montana Ave. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you’ll find lots of games, activities and opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. And there will be prizes for children 12 years old and under who wear Halloween costumes.
Children are sure to have fun while building edible aquifers or competing in water relay races and musical toilets. They’ll also enjoy touring the Wonders of Water in the TecH2O Exhibit Hall and visiting with guest exhibitors at their booths and displays. The rolling river exhibit promises to be a big hit, as well as the cloud machine, an amazing exhibit that shows how clouds are formed.
The Water Festival, which is hosted by El Paso Water Utilities, began 10 years ago in collaboration with the NMSU Institute for Environmental Engineering (WERC) and Project WET.
“This highly successful partnership provides regional leadership for community events,” says Brian Swain, the training and state coordinator for WERC and New Mexico Project WET. “We have trained and educated more than 75,000 citizens on valuable water issues.”
EPWU’s Diane Perez adds, “Since water education is for everyone, EPWU hosts a community Water Festival to help students understand water concepts and form value systems. We want to instill a general environmental awareness and stewardship ethic.”
